Native to China, the Dawn Redwood was thought to be extinct until a small grove was found.

A deciduous conifer with lush green spring foliage and a golden yellow hue in autumn. This fast growing tree requires annual or bi-annual repotting.

Site outdoors in full sun or partial shade. The delicate, feathery foliage can get damaged by strong sun and wind, so find a spot which suits it out of strong prevailing winds. Water daily in summer and keep moist at other times. Winter protection is recommended for smaller bonsai. I leave larger Dawn Redwood out during many winters and greenhouse the smaller ones.
